Multi-Purpose Armored Personnel Carrier Acquisition Project (2017) of the PNP Special Action Force

The Philippine National Police - Special Action Force (PNP-SAF) embarked on the acquisition of new wheeled armored vehicles to beef up its light armor capability due to the decreasing serviceability of its existing fleet of Cadillac Gage V-150 Commando wheeled armored vehicles.

This resulted to the Multi-Purpose Armored Personnel Carrier Acquisition Project under SAF-2017-80.

This project resulted in the selection and delivery of Shladot MDT Armor Tiger Mk. 2 wheeled armored vehicles.

24 May 2019:

MaxDefense received a photo of what appears to be a sneak peak of the PNP-SAF's newest armored vehicle.

Photo showed some of the new Shladot MDT Armor Tiger Mk. 2 wheeled armored vehicles already in the PNP-SAF's garage, and appears to be only recently delivered.

This appears to be the first photos of the vehicles in PNP-SAF livery.

Configurations appear to vary as they are not all equipped with the same accessories. MaxDefense expects more photos coming in the future once these are presented to the public.

14 June 2019:

As part of the the 121st Philippine Independence Day celebrations, the PNP-Special Action Force's static display in Luneta Park was highlighted by their newly acquired Shladot MDT Armor Tiger Mk.2 wheeled 4x4 armored vehicle, the unit's latest armored vehicle model which joined the SAF only several weeks ago.

So far this example shows a canopy-mounted 7.62mm general purpose machine gun with gunshield.

16 July 2019:

Lets make a size comparison between the 2 current 4x4 wheeled armored vehicles of the PNP Special Action Force: the classic Cadillac Gage V-150 Commando and the MDT Armor Tiger Mk.2 EWB. The photos were from a base defense exercise conducted by the SAF recently.

Contrary to perception, the V-150 is not as big as many think, while the Tiger Mk.2 is not as small as many believe. In fact, the size difference is not much, especially that this specific Tiger Mk.2 variant is an extended wheel base model, making it longer than the original variant.

Despite only having an open cupola mount for its primary 12.7mm machine gun (which appears to be absent in the photos), the Tiger Mk.2 can be equipped with a remote controlled weapon system (RCWS).

Its interesting to see how both the Tiger Mk.2 and V-150 will compare to the Gaia Amir, which is another wheeled armored vehicle ordered by the PNP-SAF and will be delivered this year.

With the armored vehicles already delivered and formally activated with the PNP Special Action Force, MaxDefense officially consider the Multi-Purpose Armored Personnel Carrier Acquisition Project of the PNP Special Action Force as COMPLETED.
