Kia KM250 6x6 Trucks Acquisition Project of the Philippine Air Force

The Philippine Air Force (PAF) has included the acquisition of additional 2.5-ton trucks, specifically the Kia KM250 6x6 truck, as part of the Horizon 2 Phase Priority Projects under the Revised AFP Modernization Program.

A total of 50 trucks were requested by the PAF, which would assist them in filling logistics requirements including troop and cargo transport, and utilitarian roles.

Since the PAF was specific in getting the Kia KM250, it appears that the plan was to hitch with the plan of the General Headquarters, Armed Forces of the Philippines to order trucks under their Truck, Troop Carrier Medium Acquisition Project which also called for the acquisition of 300 Kia KM250 6x6 trucks.

Overview
:

The Philippine Air Force has been at the receiving end of allocations of Kia KM250 6x6 trucks from the General Headquarters, AFP since they started standardizing the Korean-made trucks.

But the decision by the PAF to acquire them as part of their own acquisition programs might be a sign that they are not getting enough trucks, and would be better off with buying their own using the funds they are receiving as part of the AFP Modernization Program, rather than waiting for GHQ, AFP to buy for them.

A contract between the Department of National Defense (DND) and the Korea Trade Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) was believed to have been signed in the 3rd quarter of 2019, together with the other projects from the AFP that were meant for acquiring Korean trucks.

Delivery was expected to be completed by 2020, with the trucks going to the Air Logistics Command, which will distribute the trucks to different PAF bases and units.

The Philippine Army also received several Kia KM250 trucks that were part of the same deal with KOTRA, but under a different project from the GHQ, AFP separate from the order made by the Philippine Air Force. Photo credits to Philippine Army.
